Dr. Deborah Thomson develops One Health lessons for children and adults so that they can understand the inextricable connection between human health and the health of animals and the environment.

She is passionate about the science field and has taught her One Health lessons in underserved public schools and online. Based on teacher feedback, she has inspired over 1,000 children to consider a future in science. Her lessons have been taught internationally.

Besides developing student lessons (which are delivered virtually or in the classroom), she is a veterinarian, a science policy advisor, a first responder, an award-winning public speaker and musician, and an overall One Health advocate.

Before becoming a veterinarian, she was teaching in grade schools. Throughout veterinary school and for years after graduation, she never lost her passion for teaching children. With these lessons, she combines her two passions: One Health and primary/secondary school education.

Karla L√≥pez is a third-year medical student from Universidad San Francisco de Quito (Ecuador) with a passion for One Health, Human Rights and Peace. She is the Local officer of the Standing Committee on Human Rights and Peace at the Medical Student Association (AEM-USFQ) and Director of the Health Sciences Commission.

Karla will be working with OneHealthLessons.com to review Spanish translations of lessons, to acquire teams to represent Ecuadorean Indigenous languages, to organize teams to develop more languages – including sign language – for the COVID-19 pages, and to attend Toastmasters International meetings weekly.

Headshot of Olivia Oberholster. Image text: I am passionate about the One Health approach because it involved teamwork between those that care about human health, animal health and the environment. I look forward to sharing this passion with others and hopes it inspires other people as much as it inspires me." Quote said by Olivia Oberholster Ontario Veterinary College, university of Guelph.

Olivia graduated from the University of Guelph with a BSc in Biology and is going into her third year at the Ontario Veterinary College. She developed a passion for One Health after beginning veterinary school and hopes to center her career around improving the health of not only animals but people and the environment. Her favourite hobbies include paddle boarding with her two dachshunds and hiking in British Columbia.

Olivia will be contributing to making the OneHealthLessons website more accessible for visually impaired users, developing teams to add Canadian Indigenous languages to the website, and attending Toastmasters International meetings weekly.
